Dean E. Murphy is a senior editor at The New York Times, where he helps coordinate, vet and shape the newsroom’s most ambitious enterprise and investigative journalism.
In more than 25 years at The New York Times, he has served as an associate managing editor, led the business, investigations and weekend desks, and reported for the national, politics and metro desks.
Murphy has also worked as a foreign correspondent in Europe and Africa, and as a reporter in California, where he started his career at the Los Angeles Times.
He has contributed to six Pulitzer Prizes as a reporter or editor, and is the author of a book about the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
In 2024, Murphy was honored by SABEW with its President’s Award.
